In January 2019, we were gearing up for the exciting Aldermanic elections by hosting a 25th Ward Alderman Candidate Forum for our Chinatown community to understand who is running and how they will advocate for the Chinatown area.

There were five candidates present and running for the 25th Ward Alderman position: Alex Acevedo, Hilario Dominguez, Aida Flores, Troy Hernandez and Byron Sigcho Lopez. Topics of safety, homelessness, and education were addressed. To make the information accessible, we provided Mandarin and Cantonese interpretation, candidate guides, voter education, and audience Q&A. We also provided bus service to this candidate forum and others.

CBCAC also encouraged our community to vote and get their voice heard in such a monumental election, as reported by Free Spirit Media:

“In addition to candidate forums, CBCAC will continue mobilizing the community through phone banking, passing out pledge cards and knocking on doors to help the community understand the significance of the election process.”
