Governor Rauner, Restore Our Essential Services!
On Friday afternoon, April 3, the Illinois Department of Human Services suspended funding for 23 essential line items, including the Immigrant Services Line Item, effective immediately. This is a disrespectful and unacceptable decision with no regard made for our communities.
Last week, agencies received notices from the state certain programs grants have been immediately suspended and that we can no longer receive reimbursement for these programs. We are talking to elected officials, we are participating in advocacy efforts and CASL mobilized clients and staff to write over 700 appeal letters to our elected officials to protest the cutting of funds for social services.
Yesterday, CBCAC joined our fellow PAVE members to protest at a rally against Rauner’s budget cuts.
Roughly $26 million total has been suspended between the Department of Human Services and Department of Public Health for Fiscal Year 2015.
