The Future of a Chinatown Area Neighborhood High School

CBCAC has been organizing efforts to have a direct enrollment high school for the greater Chinatown area for the past few years, and the community has been demanding for a high school for over 40 years.

On December 3rd, 2019, we discussed the future of a Chinatown area high school. We invited all Chinatown area stakeholders to the event, as well as educational organizations in our community—from nonprofits to Chicago Public Schools’ office staff. Attendees reflected the diversity of educational stakeholders in the community. We partnered with Pui Tak Center and Project: VISION as well as past organizers of the high school campaign. Participants settled on bilingual education, college prep, and location as the priorities. We plan to continue organizing to build a Chinatown area high school. The event had live interpretation for Cantonese and Mandarin speakers.
